How to stay cool in the summer heat
Well, it has been a hot summer, hotter than expected. Unfortunately for some but fortunate for others it looks like we will be continuing with the heat for a couple more months. So here are a few ideas to help keep your homes cool and fresh when the outside is too much.
Fans
Everyone has used a fan in their lifetime and I think it is fair to say that they are not the most aesthetically pleasing household item. Below are some we believe add to the decor rather than distract it.
01. DUUX Whisper Fan £99.99
This sleek and simple fan has 26, speed settings. 26! From a gentle breeze to a strong gust of wind. It is also one of the quietest fans on the market and you can set a timer for it to turn itself off.
02. Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying fan £349.99
Not only does this fan cool you down, but it also purifies your air. It’s stunning to look at. You can even control it from the comfort of your sofa with remote control. No blades also mean it is incredibly safe around children and animals.
03. Stadler Form Fan Otto with Eco-friendly Bamboo Ring £180
The otto fan casting is made from 100% sustainably cultivated bamboo giving it a beautiful natural aesthetic.
Fabrics
Fabrics are an integral part of the home, they provide comfort and warmth-- which is not always the best thing when the sun is shining. Here are some of our favourite fabrics to keep you cool in the summer heat.
01. Linen
Linen is an ideal fabric for the home, particularly on sofas. The texture is highly breathable and durable…it also looks great. Linen comes in many amazing colours, especially when it comes to neutral tones.
02. Cotton
Cotton is another great choice when choosing a textile that will allow your home to stay cool. It is soft, durable and very easy to maintain. It is the most versatile of fabrics and you are bound to find the pattern or colour for you.
03. Wool
Although a seemingly odd choice because of its popularity in winter. The fabric breathes well, wicks moisture and doesn’t hold smells, unlike some synthetics.
Other Ideas
01. Led Lighting
Using LED lightbulbs is a great way to cool your home. Lightbulbs can actually increase the temperature of a room, but LED bulbs produce 90-95% less heat. So you won’t have to worry about turning the light on.
02. Blackout blinds
Blackout blinds are one of the best ways to keep the home cool. It’s rather simple but the less sunlight that enters the room, the cooler it will be. They also means a great night's sleep for people who like complete darkness.
